Ajay Pillarisetti is a fifth year doctoral student in Environmental Health Sciences under the guidance of Professor Kirk R. Smith at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. He studies household energy use in the developing world. His work focuses on developing, updating, and validating measurement methods for a variety of parameters related to exposure to household air pollution (HAP) -- including using commercial devices to measure appliance use and helping to develop a next generation PM2.5 monitor for HAP assessments. He spends a lot of time in R analyzing fairly large datasets and creating to ease household air pollution analysis. He's been lucky to work in India, Nepal, Guatemala, and Laos while at Cal.
