Associate Professor Mihalopoulos is a Senior Health Economist with Deakin Health Economics in the Population Health Strategic Research Centre, Deakin University. She has dual qualifications in Behavioural Science and Health Economics. Her major field of research interest has been the economics of mental health and psychosocial care, with a special focus on economic evaluation and has over 60 publications in this area. She has a broad range of experience in this area ranging from the conduct of economic evaluations alongside clinical trials to broad-based priority-setting projects which simultaneously compare multiple interventions. She has been an invited contributor to many national and international meetings and projects. Recent examples include the advisory committee of the Second National Australian Mental Health Survey of Children and Adolescents and an invited contributor to the third edition of the multinational Disease Control and Priorities Third Edition (DCP3) (mental, neurological and substance abuse disorders). Cathy has also been awarded the Deakin University Population Health Strategic Research Cluster Award for Research Accomplishment (Mid-Career Researcher) in both 2011 and 2012. The Assessing Cost-Effectiveness in Prevention (ACE-Prevention) project in which she played a pivotal role has won numerous awards, including the Vichealth award for best contribution to Australia’s Public Health (2010) and the Deakin University Vice Chancellors Award for Research Excellence.
