David Bishai

Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Dr. Bishai is a physician and leading health economist specializing in the economic evaluation of public health programs particularly in maternal and child health. Several projects work to identify the role of public health departments and government spending on population health and lower child mortality.

Dr. Bishai’s repertoire spans mathematical models of diseases, cost-effectiveness, randomized trials of health interventions, and econometric estimation of program effects. His work has highlighted how socioeconomic disparities alter the effectiveness of vaccines and how the personal and national demand for vaccines is affected by economic status. Current projects evaluate the performance of local health departments and their impact on health in USA, Uganda, Mozambique, and Botswana.
