Professor Deborah (‘Debbie’) Jarvis is Professor in Public Health at the National Heart and Lung Institute, and Honorary Consultant Physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London.
After working in clinical medicine for several years in the UK and overseas she trained in public health in South East Thames. During this period she worked with Professor Peter Burney on the European Community Respiratory Health Survey (ECRHS) and provided public health input to local health authorities, gaining experience in control of infectious disease, health needs assessment and commissioning of health services. On completion of her training she continued to study the epidemiology of asthma, allergy and lung function within the context of major international population based studies.
