Meguid El Nahas

The University of Sheffield Medical School

Born in Egypt, Professor El Nahas qualified and trained (internship) at Geneva Medical School and Teaching hospital. Subsequently, he pursued his training (Residency) in Boston (Massachusetts General Hospital) and London (Hammersmith hospital, PhD studies) as well as the Royal Free hospital (Registrar) and Cardiff (Senior Registrar/lecturer) before being appointed Consultant Renal Physician at the Sheffield Kidney Institute in 1986. In 1996, he became the first Professor of Nephrology at the University of Sheffield. In 2011, Professor El Nahas became the Chairman of the Global Kidney Academy aiming to provide an institution to promote training and education of young nephrologists worldwide with emphasis on the emerging world. To that end, he has also set up the On Line Academy (OLA) to provide an internet based interactive Nephrology Education Portal.
