Nyengo Mkandawire, BMBS, MCh(ORTH), FCS(ECSA), FRCS, is Professor of Orthopaedics and Head of Surgery at the College of Medicine at the University of Malawi in Blantyre, Malawi. Professor Mkandawire trained as a doctor at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia and as orthopaedic surgeon in the UK. He is also Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine at Flinders University. He is a foundation fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and past president of the Association of Surgeons of East Africa (ASEA). He has published a number of articles on surgery in Malawi and Sub-Saharan Africa. He also heads the Orthopaedic Clinical Officer Program in Malawi, addressing the critical shortage of orthopaedic surgeons in Malawi.
