Scott treats children with leukemia and lymphoma and conducts research in oncology supportive care and development of pediatric oncology units in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Childhood cancer is curable in 80% of cases in high-income countries, but is cured in less than 25% of cases in many LMIC, Dr. Howard’s mission and passion is to close this survival gap by adapting and implementing proven treatments to local conditions. He is the chair of the SIOP Pediatric Oncology in Developing Countries committee and director of clinical trials for St. Jude’s International Outreach Program and in those roles assists partner centers in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East to improve patient outcomes through quality improvement initiatives and clinical research. He assists with content development for the free online oncology resource, www.Cure4Kids.org that provides up-to-date oncology information and online collaboration tools to 35,000 healthcare professionals in 187 countries and developed www.POND4Kids.org, the online, multilingual Pediatric Oncology Networked Database that facilitates outcome assessment and cancer care improvement in more than 200 centers in 60 countries.
