Claudia Garcia-Moreno was born and raised in Mexico City where she studied medicine and worked for the National University. After 10 years with Oxfam working on primary health care and HIV/AIDS, she moved into women's health and reproductive health and became WHO's chief for women's health in 1994. She coordinated WHO's Multi-country Study on Women's Health and Violence Against Women and is working for WHO's Department of Reproductive Health and Research.
