Dr. Lai-Meng Looi, University of Malaya (UM)’s Distinguished Professor, studied medicine in Singapore, trained in Surgical Pathology at UM, the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (UK) and Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Boston, USA, and defended her research doctorate at UM. She has served as Chair of Pathology, Deputy-Dean (Postgraduate), Medical Research Committee Chair, Medical Ethics Committee Chair, Malaysian Journal of Pathology’s Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Advisor to Journal of Pathology, Pathology, Histopathology and Human Pathology.
She has over 160 ISI publications (on amyloidosis, nephropathy and oncopathology), is devoted to promoting a research and ethical culture among young scientists and regularly conducts writing workshops. She is an Examiner of both Royal Colleges of Pathologists, UK (RCPath) and Australasia (RCPA), Founding President of Malaysia’s College of Pathologists and Founding Fellow and Academician of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. She was instrumental in establishing pathology laboratory accreditation standards, the Pathology Act and pathology practice guidelines for Malaysia. She is President-Elect of the World Association of Societies of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Co-Chair of the InterAcademy Medical Panel, a global network of National Science and Medical Academies which promotes evidence-based advice to government on health-related issues
Professor Looi also serves as a member of the DCP3 Advisory Committee to the Editors.
