Dr. David C. Chang has been appointed Director of Outcomes Research in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. In this role, Dr. Chang develops outcomes-based research programs to help improve the nation’s healthcare systems by shaping the direction of science research, public policy and clinical practice.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Chang was a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Health Policy and Management and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Recently he held a joint appointment in the Department of Surgery at Howard University and directed the Howard-Hopkins Center for Surgical Outcomes Research.
Dr. Chang earned his Doctor of Philosophy at Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2004 after completing both his Master’s of Business Administration and Master’s of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. In 1993, Dr. Chang graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University with a double major in neurobiology and social psychology. Dr. Chang has published more than 100 peer-reviewed original research articles, book chapters and monographs, and has received numerous awards, most recently the EMS Geriatrics Award from the governor of Maryland.
