Frank J. Chaloupka

Dr. Frank Chaloupka is distinguished professor of economics at the University of Illinois at Chicago and directs IHRP's Health Policy Center. He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research's Health Economics Program and Program on Children. Dr. Chaloupka is an internationally respected scientist in the area of tobacco control. He directs the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center on the economics of tobacco control.

Dr Chaloupka is a recipient of the World Health Organization's 2014 World No Tobacco Day Award, the 2011 John Slade Award of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco and, with Geoffrey Fong, PhD, of the University of Waterloo, the 2015 Luther Terry Award for Outstanding Research Contribution. He serves on the Institute of Medicine committee on Leading Health Indicators for Healthy People 2020, and the ad hoc National Research Council Committee on the Illicit Tobacco Market. Dr. Chaloupka received his doctorate in economics from the City University of New York Graduate School in 1988.
