Two DCP3 authors, one editor, and an advisory committee member participated in a high-level summit on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in Toronto, Canada May 28-30, 2014.
The Summit focused on reducing the preventable deaths of newborns, mothers and children under the age of five in developing countries. It brought together global leaders and Canadian experts to galvanize support for the next phase of efforts and ensure that maternal, newborn and child health remains a global priority.
DCP3 Contributors at the Summit:
1. DCP3 editor Marleen Temmerman (RMNCH volume) served as a member of a panel discussion addressing the need to accelerate progress in maternal health. The panel was moderated by Dr. Dorothy Shaw, Chair of the Canadian Network for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health.
2. DCP3 author Zulfiqar Bhutta (RMNCH volume), participated in a panel discussion about increasing global attention on nutrition. The panel was moderated by Dr. Ertharin Cousin of the United Nations World Food Programme.
3. DCP3 Advisory Committee Member (ACE) Dr. Richard Horton moderated the panel discussion on civil registration and vital statistics and accountability in maternal, newborn and child health.
4. DCP3 author Joy Lawn (RMNCH volume) participated in the panel discussion on continuing to bend the curve on child mortality. The moderator was Joy Phumpahi, the Executive Secretary of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance.
