DCP3 Contributors Participate in International AIDS Conference

Three DCP3 chapter authors and one Advisory Committee member participated in the AIDS 2014, 20th International AIDS conference in Melbourne, Australia July 21-24, 2014. 

The biennial International AIDS Conference is a premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policymakers, people living with HIV and others committed to ending the epidemic.  The conference convened over 14,000 delegates from nearly 200 countries.

DCP3 Contributions at the Conference: 

1. DCP3 author Dr. David Wilson (AIDS, STIs, TB and Malaria volume) was a very active delegate at the conference, participating in over 6 plenary sessions and roundtable discussions, including serving as co-chair for two plenary sessions.  Topics he addressed included:

 

  • Trends in AIDS financing
  • Cost-effectiveness of current AIDS investments
  • Quality of population size estimates
  • Social drivers to end AIDS and extreme poverty

 

Dr. Wilson is the lead author on the DCP3 chapter on tailoring the local response to local epidemics.

 

2. DCP3 author Dr. Wafaa El-Sadr (AIDS, STIs, TB and Malaria volume) served as co-chair for the plenary session on cutting edge issues in TB and HIV.  Dr. El-Sadr is the lead author on the DCP3 chapter on management of HIV/AIDS and co-morbidities in children and adults: Cost-effectiveness considerations.
 
 
 
 
 
3. DCP3 Advisory Committee member Dr. Richard Horton co-chaired and provided opening remarks for the session on the launch of Lancet’s special theme issue on HIV and sex workers.  The special series will include 6 comprehensive reviews, a call to action paper and invited commentaries.  
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
4. DCP3 author Dr. George Patton (Child & Adolescent Development volume) co-chaired a plenary session on risks in everyday lives and framing the future for adolescents and young people.  Dr. Patton will co-author the DCP3 chapter on morbidity patterns by age, gender and region.
