DCP3 author for the RMNCH volume, Professor Zulfiqar Bhutta, served as chair of the Steering Committee for the INTERGROWTH-21st project; the international fetal and newborn growth consortium. Professor Bhutta was also a co-author of the group's recently published Fetal Growth Longitudinal Study (FGLS) in the September 6th issue of The Lancet. The study recommended that the World Health Organization international fetal growth standards be used for routine ultrasound measurements and for assessing results across populations.
Thegoal of the INTERGROWTH-21st project is to " develop scientifically robust clinical tools to assess fetal growth and the nutritional status of newborn infants, as adjuncts to the recently produced WHO charts for children aged 0 to 5. These will be incorporated into national and international maternal and neonatal programs, and they will be used to monitor and evaluate maternal wellbeing, infant health and nutrition at a population level."
DCP3 author for the Child & Adolescent Development volume, Dr. Cesar Victora, served as an advisory member and co-author of the study.
