Kenneth Fleming

Dr. Kenneth Fleming graduated from Glasgow University in 1968, received his DPhil from Oxford University in 1980 and his Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in 1988. He held a MRC post doc Fellowship in the USA at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology from 1980-81.

His main research and clinical interest has been liver disease with over 150 publications on liver pathology and on molecular biology and pathology. He was made an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2007.

He has had several major leadership positions in academic medicine, including inaugural Head of the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford (2000 - 2008) and deputy chair of the Council of Heads of Medial Schools in UK (2000 – 2005).

Since 2008, he has been involved in addressing the problems of Pathology in sub Saharan Africa including leading the development of an MMEd in Pathology in Zambia. He has also been closely involved in the creation and development of the College of East, Central and Southern Africa since 2009. In November 2011, he was appointed the first Director for International Activities of the RCPath.
