DCP3 Mental, Neurological, and Substance Use Disorders Volume Initial Launch

The DCP3 Mental, Neurological, and Substance Use Disorders volume was launched at the annual mhGAP Forum in Geneva, Switzerland on October 8.  The mhGAP Forum is attended by a diverse range of actors and stakeholders with an interest in global mental health, including national governments (representatives of permanent missions in Geneva), international associations, WHO Collaborating Centres and other academic institutions. 150-200 delegates attended this year’s Forum, which focused on the uptake of mental health innovation and research into policy and practice. 

A special lunchtime event was held to present and discuss the key findings, messages and implications of the MNS Volume of DCP3. Volume Editors Vikram PatelDan Chisholm, and Tarun Dua were joined by a number of chapter authors – Harvey WhitefordFiona CharlsonInge Petersen, and Rachana Parikh – who provided an overview of the volume, the first chapter of which was released at the event. The complete volume will be available in late 2015.

DCP3 editors and authors present key findings from the MNS disorders volume at the annual World Health Organization mhGAP Forum hosted at its Headquarters Office in Geneva on October 8.

DCP3’s Mental, Neurological, and Substance Use Disorders volume was in the spotlight during October. The Lancet published “Addressing the Burden of Mental, Neurological and Substance Use Disorders: Key Messages from Disease Control Priorities, 3rd Edition”, and the volume had its first “launch” at the annual mhGAP forum on October 8th in Geneva, Switzerland. Also on October 8th, DCP3 editor Dr. Marleen Temmerman and DCP3 Secretariat economist Dr. Carol Levin showcased the upcoming RMNCH volume, at the 21st FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

A two-day workshop on economic methods used in DCP3 was held on October 14-15 in conjunction with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
