Dr. Peter Donkor is an experienced medical educator and administrator. He is a Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, where he has previously held the positions of  Pro Vice-Chancellor (Vice-President) of the University (2010-2012); Provost, College of Health Sciences (2007–2010); Head, Center for Disease Control, Institute for Science and Technology (2004 - 2007); Vice-Dean, School of Medical Sciences (2001–2004); and Head, Department of Surgery (2000-2005). He currently serves as the Coordinator of the Central Office of Grants and Research at KNUST.

Dr. Donkor has served on the Councils of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and West African College of Surgeons. Other committees he has served include the International Outreach Committee of the American Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Association, University of Michigan Center for Global Health, Credentials and Accreditation Committee of the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana, Faculty Board of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Editorial Committee of the Ghana Medical Journal. Dr. Donkor has held a number of honorary positions including President, Ghana Surgical Research Society; President, Ghana Cleft Foundation; and President, Pan-African Association for Cleft Palate.

He is co-founder of the specialist Head & Neck Oncology and Cleft Palate Clinics at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Ghana. Dr. Donkor has collaborated extensively with local and international partners on areas of his research interest including global health, medical education, open educational resources, head and neck cancer, cleft palate, injury, emergency care, and research management.
